The Digital Modernist Galleries
De Stijl Digital

De Stijl was a Modernist Art Movement that grew from the philosophical approach called Theocracy. It involved a view of the world that was focused on the horizontal and vertical. It concentrated on linear shapes and lines. The best known of the De Stijl artists was Piet Mondrian - a dutch artist whose later work was built around the use of white and primary coloured rectangles all located on the vertical or horizontal lines of the piece. Some of the pieces included in this section are part of a project that The Digital Modernist has worked on, in which this has used graphical devices to introduce motion into De Stijl work made accessibly through the use of digital editing software.
