Art Deco was a movement in art from the early 1900s. It was a developed as a way to make modernist abstract art more populist. It was easier to relate to than earlier movements such as Cubism. This meant that it became much used in the World of Graphic Design and consumer product marketing. It began as a European movement but when it was used to develop a specifically American approach to Abstract art, then it really took off. It was taken on by Hollywood and so hit  massive market potential.
